The aim of the article “The place of social economy in the new economic and social governance in the EU” from Laura Gómez Urquijo.” is to analyse the role given to the social economy in the last EU initiatives proposed after the crisis. After the launch of the Strategy 2020, and facing the difficulties to fulfil its aims due to the crisis, we focus on the starting up of the new architecture of governance in the EU. Based at the first moment in the fiscal discipline, it includes progressively social goals which fulfilment supervises and conditions; the control of the public expenses and the different recommendations to coordinate social and economic policies determine a frame that concerns the social economy. In this respect, attention is payed to the different initiatives connected to the promotion of social values in the market as well as those that assign a specific function to the social economy in the search of answers to the crisis.
